Verizon’s EV-DO Expands to Carbondale, Illinois

Today I noticed my Verizon cell phone now has a EV-DO signal in Carbondale, Illinois. I haven’t seen anything online about this yet, including on Verizon’s coverage locator, so it must have happened not too long ago.

It’s about time. I’m sure Carbondale’s 21,000 college students will welcome the ability to watch broadband-speed video clips on their phones, and finally people can actually use the V-CAST service Verizon pitches at their Carbondale store.

  1. Yeah, I noticed this today in the Herrin area. Can’t find anything about it either, kinda curious just how much coverage they added.

  2. From what I could gather on HowardForums.com, there has been a lot of on-again, off-again EV-DO service popping up in previously 1X-only areas like Champaign, Nashville, etc.

I think it’s interesting that there hasn’t been an announcement out of Verizon PR concerning such a big rollout.
