RSVPs

When visitors RSVP to an event I collect the data shown in the RSVP form and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string.

Newsletter

When visitors sign up for my newsletter, your email address is provided to Mailchimp who delivers my newsletter. Mailchimp is a product of Intuit, Inc. and their privacy policy is available at https://www.intuit.com/privacy/. Your email address is retained by Mailchimp for the purpose of delivering my newsletter to you and is not shared with anyone else. You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in every newsletter. Unsubscribing will remove your email from my mailing list.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

When you visit this website, the website sets a cookie with an identifier used by my first-party analytics system. This identifier is not shared with others.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who I share your data with

Aside from the specific cases mentioned above for comments and newsletters, your data is not shared with anyone else.

How long I retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so the site can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

First-party analytics data about website visits and interactions is retained indefinitely. This is so I can better understand what parts of the site are working well.

You may choose to prevent this website from aggregating and analyzing the actions you take here. Doing so will protect your privacy, but will also prevent the owner from learning from your actions and creating a better experience for you and other users.

What rights you have over your data

If you have have left comments you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where I send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
